Botox For Excessive Sweating
What is Botox for excessive sweating?
The most common cause of excessive sweating in otherwise healthy adults is primary hyperhidrosis, a condition where individuals experience more sweating than others. This condition most commonly involves the armpit area, but is also common on the palms or soles.
Neuromodulators like Botox can intercept the signal between nerves and sweat glands, reducing excessive sweating over 4-6 months after treatment.
What is the treatment and recovery like after Botox for excessive sweating?
On the day of treatment, patients will pick-up their vial(s) of Botox at the pharmacy. Upon arrival, we will prepare the treatment. We review our conservative plan with you and we review consent forms. The skin is cleansed and iced. Injections are delivered – most patients feel but a series of small sharp pokes. The areas of injection look a bit like mosquito bites for a few minutes only. Rarely, a small bruise may occur at an injection site. The effects of treatment can be felt anywhere from 14 days after injection. Most patients are happy with the outcome for 4-6 months, meaning many patients are in the office 2 times per year for treatment.
If your extended health coverage covers the drug portion of this treatment, make sure you check if a preapproval is necessary. An injection fee from the clinic applies.
