Thinning Hair
Why does thinning hair occur?
There are numerous conditions that can cause hair loss or hair thinning. The most common is patterned hair loss, more precisely referred to as female or male pattern hair alopecia. In women, it tends to affect the top of the scalp. In women, it tends to affect the front of the hairline and the back of the head first.
How can we treat female or male pattern hair loss?
Traditionally, topicals like Rogaine and drugs like finasteride can treat patterned hair loss. Hair transplants are considered the gold standard treatment, especially when hair loss is more advanced. For patients looking for less involved procedures, platelet rich plasma injections have been studied to improve hair growth and thickness of the hair. A newer treatment to consider is dutasteride injections.
