Depressed Scars

What are depressed scars?

Skin can heal in many ways after an injury – and one of those ways is by leaving a depressed scar. This is often because the tissues under the scar, such as collagen or fatty tissue within skin, have been damaged by an injury or removed by surgery. Depressed scars are common when acne leads to acne scarring, but they can also occur from accidents or surgery.

What treatments are available for this condition?

Sometimes when an area is depressed, scar injection with saline solution is a treatment option that may bring slow, lasting improvement. If a larger area is involved, in some situations, laser resurfacing to remodel the skin or injection of biostimulators to stimulate our own collagen may be useful.

Each scar journey is unique – your options will be discussed in depth during your consultation.
