Botox for Migraines
What is Botox for migraines?
Migraines are a subcategory of headaches that are often associated with additional symptoms such as nausea, difficulty tolerating brightness or neurological symptoms like temporarily altered vision.
There are many treatments for migraines, including prescription drugs, and we encourage all patients to explore these with their physician/neurologist. One of the treatment options to reduce the number of migraines or their severity is the injection of Botox in muscles of the face, scalp and neck. Precise protocols are published for this purpose.
What is the treatment and recovery like after Botox for excessive sweating?
On the day of treatment, patients will pick-up their vial(s) of Botox at the pharmacy. Upon arrival, we will prepare the treatment. We review our plan with you and we review consent forms. The skin is cleansed. Injections are delivered – most patients feel but a series of small sharp pokes. The areas of injection look a bit like mosquito bites for a few minutes only. Rarely, a small bruise may occur at an injection site. The effects of treatment can be felt anywhere from 14 days after injection. If the treatment is effective, many patients are happy with the outcome for 4-6 months, meaning many patients are in the office 2 times per year for treatment.
If your extended health coverage covers the drug portion of this treatment, make sure you check if a preapproval is necessary. An injection fee from the clinic applies.
