Botox Cosmetic Lower Face

Botox Cosmetic for the Lower Face

Neuromodulators such as Botox®, Dysport® and Xeomin® can be used strategically in the lower face to improve facial balance and soften certain signs of aging. While the upper face is most commonly treated, carefully selected lower-face treatments can play an important role in overall facial harmony.

The lower face contains several muscles that contribute to downward pull and repetitive movement. Over time, this activity may contribute to a downturned appearance at the corners of the mouth, chin dimpling, or subtle imbalance in lower facial expression.

Neuromodulators work by selectively relaxing specific muscles in this region. When appropriately indicated, treatment can create a softer, more balanced appearance while maintaining natural movement and function.

Common Areas Treated in the Lower Face

Lower face neuromodulators may be used to address downturned corners of the mouth, chin dimpling, a gummy smile, and subtle imbalances in facial expression. They can also be used to help treat excessive clenching or to slim the face if the masseter muscle is a concern.

These changes are typically modest but can contribute to a more rested and balanced appearance in the right patient. The focus is on selectively softening muscle activity rather than changing true expression. Given the role of the lower face in speech and expression, treatment requires careful precision and conservative dosing to maintain natural function.

Who Is a Good Candidate?

Patients often seek lower face treatment to address subtle changes in expression, improve facial balance, or refine specific muscular patterns that contribute to an unintended resting expression. Suitability depends on individual anatomy and muscle activity. A detailed consultation is required to determine whether neuromodulator treatment is appropriate and how it should be tailored.

What is the Procedure like?

Confidential photos are taken for your medical file prior to treatment to monitor your outcome. Consent forms are reviewed with you and signed when you have received all the necessary information. The treatment area is cleansed, marked with your customized plan, and the treatment is delivered via very fine needles. Pain varies from minimal to moderate depending on individual pain sensitivity – a squeezy “stress ball”, ice application or other distractions are often used to make the experience more seamless for patients who feel they need it.

After the procedure, injection sites appear like small “mosquito bites” that dissipate within minutes. Rarely, a small bruise may occur at an injection site. Avoiding alcohol and anti-inflammatory pain medication prior to treatment can minimize this risk. Acetaminophen (Tylenol©) can be taken without fear of increasing bruising.

When Will I See Results?

Results begin to appear gradually over several days, with full effect typically seen at approximately two weeks. The positive effects typically last three to four months, although this can vary between individuals. Effects soften slowly during this time. Patients who are keen to get the best out of the treatment visit our clinic 3-4 times a year.

A Personalized Approach

Lower face neuromodulator treatment is highly individualized. Careful assessment ensures balance is improved without affecting natural function or expression. When performed thoughtfully, it can complement other treatments and support a natural, balanced result. A consultation is recommended to determine suitability.
