Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP)

What is platelet-rich plasma?

Platelet-rich plasma (PRP is a product of your own blood. Blood is drawn by our nursing staff and centrifuged. The platelet-poor plasma is discarded, and PRP is drawn. It is rich in growth factors. PRP can injected in the scalp to treat patterned hair loss

What can platelet-rich plasma treat?

PRP has several scientific publications supporting its use to treat patterned hair loss. In general, 3 monthly consecutive treatments are performed. About 75-80% of patients see a response. In studies, the increase in hair density and hair shaft diameter is about 30%. For responders, maintenance treatment is advised every 6-12 months.

What is the procedure and recovery like with platelet-rich plasma?

On the day of your first treatment, photos are taken and forms are reviewed. Blood is drawn by our nursing staff, centrifuged and the PRP is prepared. The skin of the scalp is cleansed, and the treatment is delivered via injection. We use multiple distractions to make the procedure comfortable, including a vibration tool and squeezy balls. Very small needles are used. Pain, tenderness and bruising are possible. Follow-up is organized 6 months after the first treatment to determine the response.
