Radiesse

What is Radiesse?

Radiesse is both a dermal filler and a biostimulator. In its original form, Radiesse is a dermal filler made of calcium hydroxyapatite that is used to create sharp definition, such as when treating the jawline. Once it is suspended – this is called dilute or hyperdilute Radiesse – it behaves moreso like a biostimulator.  Biostimulators are a category of injectable agents that use our own body’s own ability to down more collagen, elastin and other components that restore the skin structure and its health. This is often referred to as regenerative aesthetics. Radiesse can be injected over areas under the skin to stimulate our body’s own cells (fibroblasts) to create collagen, elastin, hyaluronic acid and healthy blood vessels.

What can Radiesse treat?

Radiesse in its original form is most commonly used to create definition, such as in the cheek or jawline area. Dilute or hyperdilute Radiesse is best used to restore the health of skin that has been thinned by time and sun damage. It is commonly used to treat the cheeks, neck and chest, where fine lines and wrinkles form. Radiesse can also be used to treat rolling acne scars.

What is the treatment and recovery like with Radiesse?

During treatment, pain, pushing and pulling are possible sensations. Swelling and bruising are possible. Rarely, a nodule can occur (accumulation of Radiesse) and is readily treatable. Extreme care and specialized technique (such as use of blunt-tipped cannulas) is used to avoid treating near important blood vessels. Massage is performed in the office after the procedure. The biostimulation effects can be observed over 6-12 weeks.
