What are dutasteride injections?

Dutasteride is a medication in the category of 5-alpha reductase inhibitors. It is closely related to finasteride (also known as Propecia) but has a longer duration of action (“half-life”). Rather than being taken by mouth, dutasteride can be injected in the scalp every 3 months to foster hair growth

What can dutasteride injections treat?

Dutasteride injections have been studied to treat patterned hairloss. It is mostly used in men and postmenopausal women. 

What is the procedure and recovery like with dutasteride injections?

On the day of your first treatment, photos are taken and forms are reviewed. The skin of the scalp is cleansed, and the treatment is delivered via injection. Very small needles are used, as with Botox treatment. Pain and bruising are possible. This treatment is not suitable for women planning a pregnancy. Usually a 6-12 month trial is recommended to see results.
