Global Volume Loss

Why does volume loss occur in the cheeks?

Though it is associated with age, volume loss occurs because fat pads that sit under the skin shrink and slide on top of one another. This contributes to a drawn or hollow appearance. In some patients, this loss of volume in the cheeks eventually leads to deeper folds, jowls and loss of definition in the jawline. Significant weight loss often contributes to a more drawn or hallow appearance of the face.

How can we restore volume in the cheek area?

When a feature is caused by volume loss, replacing volume that was lost can restore the desired appearance. This can be done with traditional dermal fillers, who are made of hyaluronic acid. These clear gels are injected under the skin to directly restore volume. Alternatively, biostimulators like Radiesse or Sculptra can be used to encourage our own body to lay down collagen and increase volume.
