Jowls

Why do jowls happen?

Jowls tend to occur over time because of bone resorption, shrinking fat pads on the face and skin laxity. Individuals with shorter chins or less defined jawlines tend to get jowls earlier. In our assessment, we will verify if the upper cheek, chin and jawline are well supported.

How can we improve jowls?

We always want to keep balance between features when treating our patients.  When a feature is caused by volume loss, replacing volume that was lost can restore the desired appearance. This can be done with traditional dermal fillers, who are made of hyaluronic acid. These clear gels are injected under the skin to directly restore volume. Our patients with jowls often require treatment of the cheek area, chin and jawline. Alternatively, biostimulators like Radiesse or Sculptra can be used to encourage our own body to lay down collagen and increase volume. In certain circumstances, Belkyra can be used to shrink jowls.
